Why do most modeling agencies favor ultra-thin, stick figure female models over girls with normal figures?

Why are normal-sized yet very attractive women "too fat" to be top models? Most men and most women do not find that these stick-figure models come close to approaching the ideal feminine beauty. They're not that attractive. But why are emaciated, stick-figure models so favored by the fashion world? What can they do that women with beautiful curves can't do? And I do not mean over-weight women.

  1. actually thats NOT TRUE AT ALL!! yes and no. They do have certain designers that ONLY favor girls which huge curves and wont except tall sticks but either way there models have to me flawless and hard for everyone to meet the same beauty they present
  2. My mom always says that the designers and modeling agencies like the girls to look like hangers for the clothes! XD I find it quite true.
  3. I get what your saying! But if you really look and study the modeling industry you will see that the money maker models, and the famous models are the ones with a good in-shape, fit healthy body. I mean lets take Victoria secret models for example they are truly the huge money makers and famous models and there bodies are no where near ultra-thin. So if you really wanted to be a famous huge model you would need an actual good body, right? Though yes there are models who are way to skinny and it is not the agencies fault it is the designers fault because designer's request certain models with certain body types so agents must fill there agencies with those types of models. But to answer your question directly Agencies tend to "favor" skinnier models because they have to fit in the designers clothes which tend to run smaller. And an agency needs to make money! And your right i don't like the extremely skinny look because as a women your suppose to have boobs, and a figure and that is why i really adore models like Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, and Gisele Bundchen. 4. Well, If you search for Asian models/agencies. You'll see that they have more fat than American models. I think models are not just stick figures like you see on runways. Models need to have a good face (like a V-shaped) & a good body & knows how to walk plus also the height to be called a model. Overweight women don't get me wrong, are great but not for the model industry because 1) they have soo much weight on them 2) Clothes don't flatter customers 3) If they were to do runways, they won't walk as fast as the skinny models. The fashion world only wants to show off the designers clothes. That's why they need a tall & skinny model to show their clothes so buyers/celebrities can wear them. That's the only way to cell & impress customer's in the fashion business.
  5. I think you are mistaken by a common myth. If you look at most models, they are not at all stick thin or emaciated. They are tall and fit, but very healthy, and many have ample curves (but not so much to distract from the clothes). Here are some typical pictures from actual, major runway shows as proof: http://firstview.com/collection.php?p=16&id=12979&of=19 http://firstview.com/collection.php?id=12663 http://firstview.com/collection.php?p=16&id=12979&of= http://firstview.com/collection.php?p=24&id=19487&of=
  6. Models aren't supposed to be the ideal beauty...they're not there to be pretty for men..they're there to wear clothing. They're job isn't to be attractive unless they're porn models(Playboy, Maxim, etc..). There are modeling agencies and designers that only accept bigger, curvier, and shorter women as well. It's not like models are ONLY skinny and tall. Last time I checked, skinny women were getting called disgusting, anorexic stick figures while "curvy" women were getting praised for not being skinny and for being more attractive to men. Jazz: "as a woman you're supposed to have boobs" -I know skinny women with DDs and bigger and big women with AAs. Being skinny doesn't mean flat chested, and boobs don't make you a woman, a vagina does.
  7. Here's a website about the modeling industry that will help answer your question: www.newmodels.com. Scroll all the way down & click on "height & professional modeling." Also, check out the other really good section on that site about "plus modeling".
  8. It all depends on whats being modeled, if your looking at the fashion industry then more then likely the model will be thinner because the designer has his clothes in mind, not the audience paying attention to the woman wearing them. They cover most of the runway and fashion shows, on the other hand the curvy and shorts models do sometimes get these jobs too but they are mostly used for glamour modeling (Maxim, King, FHM, etc). When you are that curvy the focus goes from selling an item to showing yourself because the curves are what you are modeling. But its mostly stuff you cant just put on tv like implied nudes up top in swimwear, and lingerie including thongs and g strings. The editor plays a role in this as well because when photoshoping final products its faster on a thin model, when they turn and bend certain ways they dont get a fat crease that has to be edited out in different ad layouts. In glamour mags you usually get a short spread consisting of a few pics so it doesnt have to be as on point, and of course no one notices the small things not touched when theres a pair of boobs with some hands covering them or a butt in a thong.
