Why do female models strike such ridiculous postures?

Why do female models strike such ridiculous postures on the catwalk? They contort their bodies into such unnatural shapes, and have blank gormless expressions on their faces. Isn't all that silliness unhealthy? [rainbow] You're welcome but honestly I hadn't realized you were on it in the first place!

Those chicks must suffer from some serious back troubles the way they walk in those heels. It's unnatural. But to be fair, male models looks just as ridiculous.
On Top Model, Tyra calls that 'fierce' and 'couture'. I'm with you, it just looks unnatural.

this is how they are taught, believe me they have too learn alot of stupid things too us but not too the people who watch modeling. they have that show ..who will be the next model by tyra banks and its very difficult.
It’s those CFMs they’re wearing that’s unhealthy. Have you seen the YouTube videos of them falling off their shoes? BTW, thanks for taking me off your blocked list.
Its a case of believing too much of their own publicity I think. They decide it looks cool and "perfect the look". Then someone comes along and says - doesn't that just look odd..and the whole house of cards comes down.
They rehearse and are told how to walk and pose by the designer and model mom.
because it is how they can best showcase the clothing they are wearing.
How callous you all are towards these talented artistes. Don't you realise how hard they work? How they suffer?? "Take just 20 minutes per day and practice ONE FACIAL EXPRESSION until you can bring up that look without even thinking... Then, when you've mastered that look, go on to the next one. I won't guarantee that you'll have all the looks in 30 days but I promise that you'll be able to develop a killer look for many situations you want to portray. When that photographer says; "I need a really sad look" you can cheerfully produce it". Personally I don't think I would have the emotional strength for all of that. Got great legs though.
