Are there any female role models for 5 year old girls that wear glasses?
My daughter loves the Disney princesses and other female hero types like Lava girl. But she recently was diagnosed with an eye problem that will require her to wear glasses. Are there ANY positive female role models that wear glasses that my five year old daughter may be able to admire, imitate and related to? I am concerned that her self image will be effected and she may not wear the glasses when her parents aren't around. Please advise.

- Ugly Betty.
- Rent "Little Miss Sunshine". I also think the girl on Nickelodeon's 'The Wild Thornberries' wears glasses, Velma from Scooby Doo, a lot of the characters from 'Hey Arnold'. Makes sure she knows it's cool to be different.
- Well theres always Harry Potter, but she might be alittle young for that. What about getting her some glasses that actually have the disney princesses on them http://eyeglasses.go-optic.com/store/eyeglasses/eyeglasses.asp?catalog=EYEGLASSES&action=1&brand=Disney&Page=4 I did some research and there really aren't any young animated characters that wear glasses. I think I would stick with Harry Potter, maybe even get a pair that look alittle like Harry's and tell her they have magical qualities...
- What about you or her mother? Other family members? (I can't think of any others but if I do I will update this.) Good luck.
- The "Junie B. Jones" series of books by Barbara Parks. These books feature a girl named Junie who starts out as a kindergardner and gets glasses. Both my girls loved these books! We would read a chapter every night. It helped my 7 yro daughter who got glasses when she was 6. Best wishes!
- The little girl on Thornberrys wears glasses, and so does Harriet the Spy. You may also want to consider getting her an American Girls doll. They have one named Molly who wears glasses, and you can also customize them to have the same hair color/clothes/etc. as your own daughter. We did this for my niece who was going through chemo and had a bald doll made for her and got her hats and bandanas and things. There are also a series of books that go along with them and they are very educational and just cute all around. Just google American Girls and it will come up.
