what happened to good female role models?
Nowadays it seems that female role models are hard to find. Now young girls look up to bimbos like the Kardashians, or Paris Hilton... but why don't more girls look up to women like Michelle Obama? -a woman who came from a family that shared a small apartment, but went on to Princeton and became a successful lawyer and public activist. I'm not asking girls to be democrats (this is not politics)... i just want to know why young girls have these terrible examples of great influential women. Also, who do you think is a good role model for young girls and why?
Public Comments
- they became CHAVS or sluts
- I guess cuz young girls like at how pretty they look and want to be pretty and cute like them.
- Here's an idea-stop looking to celebrities to be your role models. There's nothing more pathetic than somebody trying to be like somebody famous.
- i totally agree with you. I look at the way little girls dress these days and I have to wonder why. When those stupid "bratz" dolls first came out, I worked at Wal-Mart and just about every parent of a little girl came in asking for these new dolls. they are absolutely disgusting. The makeup, clothes, jewelry and attitudes are just so revolting. I always tried to make the parents buy something else! I really don't think there are any more good women role models for little girls these days, from Rihanna who goes back to her abusive boyfriend to girls who are taking dirty pictures for their boyfriends, its no wonder more and more teen girls are dealing with issues they shouldn't be until their late 20's.
- well im a teenager and my role model is Selena Gomez you never hear anything bad about her besides the new photoshopped picture of her
- unfortunately the press has more fun with Britney, Paris, and Kim's antics than the good girls. I think some good role models are Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, and Kate Winslet
- I wonder...
- becuz this day and age it's all about big boobs and not big brains... unfortunately.
- I think that a lot of girls pick role models that they want to look like even if they are awful people (Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, etc) I tell my 6 year old daughter to look up to people that have her same values and beliefs and not worry anout what they look like. It is hard in this society to find good hearted women to look up to. I try to encourage her to look up to people who are successful and have worked hard to get where they are. I try to point out female athletes (especially during the Olympics) or singers that are not trashy (Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift) that she can try to identify with. These days young girls biggest role models should closer to home than ever before. I try my best to set a good example for her in everything that I do so that she realizes it is what is inside that counts and not what you own or look like.
